Here’s What Happens Every 60 Seconds Online

We all know that there is a ton going on around the clock in the ethereal world that is the internet; but have you ever wondered just how much is actually happening? These stats give us a glimpse into how much we do online (whether it’s productive activity is TBD) in just 60 seconds.

1: When you send an email, you are one of 204 million others who did the same thing within 60 seconds of you clicking the send button.

2: Next time you are asking the great and powerful Google a pressing life question, remember that delays must be expected because there are over four million people just like you asking similar questions of historic import.

3: And just like all those disciples of Google who find themselves in the middle of an existential crisis every 60 seconds, 2.5 million life changing events are recorded on Facebook.

4: 72 hours of video are uploaded every minute to YouTube. That’s 1.2 hours of quality cinematic material per second. Though we could quibble about the quality . . .

5: 277,000 Tweets are posted to Twitter. (Proving that the culture has now successfully learned to communicate the deep complexities of life multus ne multus.)

6: 8,333 clips accurately documenting the reality of life in the 21st century are shared by Vine users.

7: WhatsApp and Instagram combine to share more than 460,000 pictures per minute with the world. This is enough pictures to photograph the entire world population in less than 14 days. (For perspective, a minute of video contains 1,440 frames or “pictures.”)

8: More than 60,000 hours of music are listened to per minute on Pandora. (Again, perspective: 60,000 hours of music equals 6.8 years of “break up” music…per minute)

9: And because we don’t want to be unhappy while we listen to our 6.8 years of break up music, we buy $83,000 worth of merchandise for ourselves on Amazon every 60 seconds. Jeff Bezos, you’re welcome.

10: Finally, while we wait for our Amazon Prime packages to come, Apple users download 48,000 apps from the app store per minute. . . so we can play with our apps while listening to break up music while spending way too much money on Amazon. It’s a beautiful world.

People, it’s truly an amazing modern age we live in. And the odds are, it’s only going to become even more incredible.
